Litchfield were appointed to help with the choice of unit and the high level budget costing of the entire project. This role was widened to the overseeing of the design and build works to the new premises. This was a £1.6 million project delivered in 18 weeks. It involved the project management of the design and build of a new 2,000 square metre postal distribution unit in south London. The equipment layout design and the computer infrastructure layout was designed by the in-house team. The process was monitored and any problems were highlighted to the client throughout the process. Litchfield’s role in this project was less “hands-on” than is usually the case acting as umpires rather than as managers. The project was not without its challenges. A change of site manager was required in order to bring the project in on budget and schedule. However, these changes were made and the relocation undertaken successfully. “Litchfield’s help was crucial in managing the successful completion of this business critical project.” Rob Bradford, DHL Global Mail, Project Sponsor. The crucial aspect of this type of refurbishment is the close teamwork between the client and the project manager. Adaptability is needed on both sides. Detailed project planning day-by-day is important as the knock on effects of work completed late is greater in this type of work than most other projects. |
