Crown Courts

Litchfield, as part of the Cofathec team, was selected for the Courts and Tribunals Modernisation Programme (CTMP) Government initiative through the Department for Constitutional Affairs, the Lord Chancellors Department, to update the Courts across the UK and computerise the British judicial system.

The project was divided into three phases:

Phase 1: Crown Courts
Phase 2: County and Family Courts
Phase 3: Magistrates Courts

Litchfield provided project, site management and design services for a number of courts in Phase 1 across the UK. The project involved the installation of a new cabling infrastructure including the installation of Comms and Patching rooms in each courthouse. The cabling infrastructure was provided to most positions in the offices, interview rooms, and public areas of the courthouse.

The work was completed in occupation and required refurbishment skills in order to complete the works to English Heritage standards.

Each courthouse consumed about 5 miles of IT cabling housed in compartment trunking.

To date we have completed 81 courts in 13 locations through England and Wales, working in Grade 1 and 2 listed buildings, in a wide variety of situations.

The works attracted numerous awards - amongst which it was voted the most successful Government project in the UK in 2004.
